Ian Desmond, a two-time MLB All-Star and current outfielder for the Colorado Rockies, has decided to opt out of the season.
As part of a new agreement, the number of affiliate teams reduced from 160 to 120. There's also a new schedule structure based on geographic alignment that limits the number of total opponents a team will face this season.
A mechanical adjustment in the way the ball is woven has decreased its weight by 1/10th of an ounce, an MLB spokesman said. S cientists have determined that the change alone will result “in a small reduction in the distance of a typical fly ball.”
