After Week 4: CFL Power Rankings (3-0 Saskatchewan Still on Top)

Oh-Canada Aug 31, 2021

The Canadian Football League just completed Week 4 of the 2021 regular season.  We continue to accrue some solid data so as to make some better educated judgements when it comes to betting.

With "rivalry weekend" coming up, here's a look at what's on tap and what's at stake.

The big news of the past week is the Saskatchewan Roughriders who remain undefeated at 3-0.  But that unblemished record will be put to the test in a big way over Labour Day weekend when the 3-1 Winnipeg Blue Bombers travel to Saskatchewan with first-place in the West Division at stake.  The winner is also likely to emerge atop the Power Rankings, next week and becomes the definitive favourite for the Grey Cup.

Conversely, it's desperation time in Alberta.  The Edmonton Elks (1-2) are scheduled to visit the Calgary Stampeders (1-3).  It’s rare for both of these teams to be under .500.  The positive news is that one of these two struggling teams should walk out of McMahon Stadium having doubled their win count and will be right back in the race.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats just picked up their first win in Week 4, and will host their arch-rivals this weekend – the Toronto Argonauts.  The Argos, for the first time in a very long time, are listed as favourites.

In the yucky game of the week, the 1-2 Ottawa REDBLACKS travel to Montreal Alouettes, who are also 1-2.

Here’s the complete CFL breakdown – with comments -- we head into Week 5. What follows are the complete power rankings #1 through #9 according to the official CFL website:

Also note that we'll post Week #5 picks and predictions from our in-house handicapper Nick on Thursday morning.
