Key Stat: One reason why we like the OVER in tonight's BC Lions-Saskatchewan Roughriders game: Both teams are a combined 10-5 to the OVER this season.
Heading into the CFL's regular season homestretch, the BC Lions (7-1) find themselves hot on the heels of the first-place Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the stacked West Division. Fresh off their furious 41-40 comeback win last week at Calgary, the CFL's highest-scoring team travels next to Regina to face the ailing Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-4).
The roaring Lions are a perfect 3-0 on the road, largely due to an offense that looks unstoppable. QB Nathan Rourke is the clear favourite for MOP honors and is coming off passing for nearly 1,000 yards in the last two games alone.
Meanwhile, the Riders are in a street fight to make the postseason and have struggled badly of late, losing 3 of their last 4 contests. Saskatchewan didn't even look particularly strong against the lowly Edmonton Elks in their lackluster 34-23 win last week, a game that was much closer than the score indicated. It's desperation time in Regina as the Riders can't afford to fall further behind its rivals in a such a stacked divisional race.
The kickoff is Friday night at Mosaic Stadium. Spreads.ca lists the Lions as -4.5 favourites. The O/U is 52.5.
Prediction (powered by Pointspreads.ca):
BC averages 37 points per game and can score from anywhere on the field at any time. They should feast on an inconsistent Riders defence that has allowed 279 passing yards per game at a 69 percent completion rate and nearly 9 yards per attempt (per attempt, not completion!).
Laying -4.5 with the road favourite is justifiable. However, given this is the second straight roadie for the Lions and they nearly lost last week, we also see Saskatchewan scoring its share of points (BC surrendered 40 to the Stampeders last week).
The Lions should have no trouble getting close to their usual scoring output in this game, while the Riders know a conservative game plan won't cut it. Key Stat: One reason why we like the OVER in tonight's BC Lions-Saskatchewan Roughriders game: Both teams are a combined 10-5 to the OVER this season.
Hence, we see a shootout in this game that sails over the posted total at 52.5.
