A Big Opening Day for the Blue Jays

Baseball Apr 02, 2021

The Toronto Blue Jays got off to a roaring start in the 2021 regular season, beating the New York Yankees 3-2 in extra innings.  Not only was it a road win for the Blue Jays, they also beat the American League's odds-on favourite to win the AL East and make it to the World Series.

Let's take a snapshot of the Blue Jays' standing in 1st place and savour this precious moment.  Where's the champagne?

The Blue Jays' upset win was especially gratifying to those who bet on them.  Toronto was a +155 underdog to the heavily-favoured Yankees at SPREADS.CA.

The victory came at the expense of Gerrit Cole, who started for the Yankees.  Cole pitched a solid game and struck out eight batters, but Toronto got a lift from Teoscar Hernandez (who went 3 for 4 with a home run) and Vladimir Guerrero (a line drive single plus two walks).  Meanwhile, MVP candidate Aaron Judge was a killer for the Yankees.  He struck out twice and stranded five men on base.

For bettors who want to jump aboard the Toronto victory train, the odds on Saturday's game are similar.  The disrespected Blue Jays are +145 underdogs in the Apr. 3 matchup.  Note both teams are off today.  However, note since this is an early start (noon EST) on Saturday.
