Saturday Night Boxing: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella -- Main Card Pick & Predictions

Other Nov 21, 2020

Main Event: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella for WBA Continental Welterweight Title

Pick: Conor Benn

By: Decision

Fight Goes the Distance: Yes

Breakdown: Conor Benn is coming in 16-0 with 11 KOs at only 24 years old. He’s the son of the former world champion Nigel Benn. Conor is still growing into his body but so far he’s shown lots of toughness and has that power punch in his back pocket. Of all his fights that he’s ended by tko, most of them have been within the first 3 rounds. Sebastian Formella is coming off his first loss of his career against the formidable Shawn Porter. He was able to take Porter all the way to the judges scorecard. Benn will come in with the clear edge in power. For Conor he always has that power punch in his back pocket that he can throw out and make the fight his. Formella is absolutely the hardest fight of Benn’s career. He’s been in the ring with top talent and if Benn is able to get this win, it will help him grow into a bigger fighter. Look for Benn to overpower Formella but since Formella has shown his toughness before, this one is likely to hit the cards.

Co-Main Event: Alen Babic vs. Tom Little

Pick: Alen Babic

By: Knockout

Round: 2

Group of Rounds: (1-6)

Fight Goes the Distance: No

Breakdown: Alan Babic is a very impressive prospect who’s coming in undefeated at 5-0 and has knocked out all of his opponents. He’s done it all before or at the 3rd round. Tom Little is coming in at 10-8 and is on a 4 fight losing streak. He’s been knocked out all 4 of those fights. This fight is a showcase fight in which Babic is going to definitely get a win by knockout.

Fight #3: Liam Davies vs. Sean Cairns for Vacant English Bantamweight Title

Pick: Liam Davies

By: Decision

Fight Goes the Distance: Yes

Breakdown: Liam Davies is looking to continue to make a name for himself when he takes on Sean Cairns for the Vacant English Bantamweight Title. Davies is 24 years old and he’s currently undefeated at 7-0. Most of his wins have come via decision and he’s done a good job using his footwork and his speed to win his fights. His defense is sound and he’s good at making his opponents miss and counterpunches them. For Cairns, he’s coming in on a 4 fight win streak and he’s made his last opponent quit. It’s tough for him to win this fight because Liam has much better footwork. Look for Liam to make this fight one where he makes Cairns miss and counterpunches him all the way to the end and pick up the win.

Fight #4: Fabio Wardley vs. Richard Lartey

Pick: Fabio Wardley

By: TKO

Round: 3

Fight Goes the Distance: No

Breakdown: Fabio Wardley is coming in as a bright young fighter in the Heavyweight division. He has a record of 9-0 and he’s also won all of his fights by knockout. He’s facing a journeyman in Richard Lartey who’s lost his last two fights. Wardley has ridiculous power in his shots and he’s a rising heavyweight contender that is coming out of the UK. This fight is going to Fabio Wardley and he’s going to end this one by KO early.

Fight #5: Jez Smith vs. Ben Ridings

Pick: Ben Ridings

By: Decision

Fight Goes the Distance: Yes

Breakdown: Both of these fighters are making their professional debut as the 22 year old Ben Riding steps into the ring against the 26 year old Jez Smith. This fight is coming in with a lot of heat as both guys have been talking all press conference. Ben Ridings seems to have the advantage coming in. He’s shown the ability to use his power and his technical boxing just seems to flow more naturally than it does for Jez. Jez does come in a little faster, but Ridings has the accuracy. Since this fight is only 6 rounds this one will likely go to decision where we will see Ridings take this one.
