The evil empire is on pace to win 122 games this season. The New York Yankee's blistering start is bad news not only for all the other teams in the AL East, but every other franchise in baseball – including the Los Angeles Dodgers.
We hate to say it, but the New York Yankees look unbeatable this season.
The team that's perpetually overrated and overvalued by betting markets is finally enjoying the sweet taste of revenge. If things keep up at this pace, the Yankees will finish 122-40 and would crush the record books. They'd also crush a few sportsbooks, too.
The Yanks started off the 2022 regular season as co-favourites to win the division (and the AL pennant) with the Toronto Blue Jays, who looked loaded coming into the new campaign. While the Jays have performed pretty well – at 8 games over .500 – they're also in danger of falling out of the division race by the All-Star break.
Yes, the New Yorkers are that good and have been playing that hot:
What's remarkable is that when the Yankees need hitting, they get the hits. And when they need pitching, they can squeak out a victory with any one.
If the Yanks can keep up this pace, that would be the most wins in Major League history. Their .722 winning percentage would be the second highest in baseball history, behind the 1906 Cubs, who went 116-36-3 -- which was a .763 winning percentage. But hey, that was 116 years ago and who were the Cubs playing back then?
Obviously, this team has to cool down at some point, particularly considering the competition they have in their division – with three rivals at .500 or better. Even Baltimore is playing better than expected.
But a hot start like this cannot be ignored. History hasn't been kind to this storied franchise. The Yankees didn’t win anything close to this number in recent years. It's been 13 years since they won a championship. Nonetheless, any teams that's winning 75 percent of its games at home, combined with 66 percent of road games, is not just a championship contender, but potentially one of the best teams of all time.
Let's take a look at how the odds reflect the Yankee's fast start. Here's the latest numbers at SPREADS.CA:
