CFL Regular Season Hitting the Homestretch

CFL Sep 23, 2022

Three games fill the CFL's Week 16 schedule.

The premier matchup kicks off Saturday night when the Calgary Stampeders (8-5) gallop into BC to take on the roaring Lions (9-3).

All three games this weekend are expected to be close. No game is lined at more than +/- 2.5 points.

Here's a short primer on the three matchups:

On Friday night (7:30 pm ET) Hamilton plays at Montreal, where the Alouettes are -2 favourites. The Tiger-Cats shocked the beastly 12-2 Blue Bombers last week in the CFL's biggest upset of the season. Meanwhile, a rested Montreal team aims for its sixth victory and a winning record at home.

Saturday's early game (7:00 pm ET) features the East-leading Argonauts heading to the capitol to play the Redblacks. Toronto is laying -2.5. The Argos are riding a 3-game win streak and may simply be too tough for upset-minded Ottawa.

Out west, the action comes to close a few hours later (10:00 pm ET) with arguably the #2 and #3 best teams in the league. The explosive Lions, who lead the CFL in scoring, host the Stamps, who boast an impressive 5-2 record as a visitor. BC is laying -1.

Here's a look at the CFL standings through 15 weeks of action:

Expert Prediction (powered by Pointspreads.ca):

Montreal should take advantage of a natural letdown by Hamilton -- so we'll take the Als getting points.

Toronto is simply the better team playing at Ottawa. Laying -2 5 seems reasonable.

Finally, BC looks like a steal as only a -1 fave.

All that said, the best bet of the week might be OVER 54 in the feature game. The Over is 7-5 in BS games and 9-4 in Calgary games this season. Moreover, the two previous games between these two fine teams have produced 81 and 60 points.

BEST BET IN THE CFL THIS WEEK: OVER 54 (CGY-BC)
