Christmas in August: Betting on NFL Futures

NFL Aug 02, 2021

Let's get straight to the point:  SPREADS.CA offers the most extensive menu of NFL futures as you will find anywhere. Yes, SPREADS.CA numerous wagering options are even better than anything you will find in Las Vegas.

Consider the extensive menu of NFL futures items available right now at SPREADS.CA.  There are hundreds of futures and propositions up and ready for betting at this moment.  You can wager on everything from division winners, conference champions, and the Super Bowl victor to the odds on which player will lead in various statistical categories.  There are even odds on the performance of every single NFL team.

Seriously, in my 40 years of wagering on the NFL, I've never seen a more extensive pre-season menu of possibilities.

Let's now take a look at some of the more intriguing futures.  Note that this will be the first of several upcoming articles on NFL futures and propositions.

Odds to win the Super Bowl: It's no surprise that Kansas City (5-1) and Tampa Bay (6-1)  at the near co-favourites to win the NFL championship.  What is a bit surprising is to see the Green Bay Packers now listed at 12-1, after QB Aaron Rodgers will apparently be the starter after much off-season speculation he'd be traded (or sign elsewhere).  However, we here at POINTSPREADS.CA posted two articles on this point and advised readers to grab the Packers at 20-1 two weeks ago, which would have been a fabulous number.  So, no we're not surprised to see the Pack listed at 12-1 right now, at all.

NFL Most Valuable Player: The usual suspects are all here – Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, and Allen.  All would be wise bets based on nigh expectations going into 2021.  But how about Justin Herbert for the LA Chargers at 18-1?  He's the real deal and could put up monster numbers if things go right for the team that tends to get overlooked by many bettors.  And for longshots, Cam Newton playing in Bill Belichick's system coming off a disappointing season might be worth a flyer.  Sure, there's lots of reasons to skip Newton and the Patriots.  But at 66-1, that's not a bad wager.  The only caveat to this wager is – bet on a quarterback.  The days of running backs or wide receivers dominating seasons statistically are pretty much in the past.  Note that this list is incomplete – many more players are listed.

Odds to Win Each Division: This is always a fun category.  Speculating which team will win each division is a complex puzzle and requires looking at strength of schedule and other factors.  It's easy to find reasons to bet the favourites, but the real value is with motivated longshots and under-the-radar teams that aren't looked upon as highly by the betting public.  Note perceptions can and will change very quickly with a winning streak.  Consider the Steelers at +450....the Texans at +2800 (yes, we know the Texans will probably be awful, but no team should be listed at this price in a four-team division with no dominant team)....the Chargers at +400....the Falcons at +850....and the Cardinals at +600.

More to come....
