Dog Day Afternoon

Baseball May 09, 2021

In the last two feature articles (Friday and Saturday), we highlighted the remarkable performance of underdogs this season in Major League Baseball.

Initially, we speculated that betting underdogs across-the-board might be a winning strategy, at least until this streak runs out.  We even called this betting angle, "Grand Salami for Dogs."

On Friday, betting all the dogs produced 6 wins and 9 losses...for a net loss of -110 (flat betting $100 on each dog).  Then on Saturday, the dogs fared much worse, going just 4-11.  A market correction, perhaps?  Return to the mean?  The sign of a looming turnaround?

We'll continue with the experiment one more day.

Since April 1st (the start of the 2021 season) betting every single underdog team across the board in every game would have produced a whopping +49.60 unit profit (flat betting $100 per play on every dog = plus $4,960.).

Including Friday and Saturday, these pups have gone 216-248 outright.

Let's run with the experiment one more day and see how it goes – with 14 dogs. Sunday's schedule and odds are as follows (at SPREADS.CA):
