Final Weekend of NHL Regular Season Games Features Canucks at Oilers

Edmonton heavily favoured to end the regular season with a victory versus Vancouver

Friday night's 2021-22 regular-season finale includes a matchup of two teams asking themselves very different sets of questions.

The Edmonton Oilers (47-27-6, 2nd in the Pacific) are asking themselves what it will take to make a major leap in the playoffs, which are set to begin next week. Certainly, the hot Oilers have been playing terrific hockey lately, and fans have several reasons to be optimistic about Edmonton's chances.

Meanwhile, their opponent this Friday is scratching their heads wondering what happened to their shot at making the postseason. Vancouver (38-30-11, 5th in the Pacific) went stone-cold late in the season, ultimately fading from playoff contention with a lackluster April.

After being officially eliminated this week, will the Canucks bring their best game for this finale, hoping to build some confidence heading into a long offseason? Or instead, has Vancouver mailed it in for the season and getting ready for the golf course?

Oddmakers at Spreads.ca have the Oilers as -200 favourites. That returns +165 on the Canucks.

The puck drops in Edmonton at 7:00 pm MDT.

Prediction (powered by Pointspreads.ca):

Vancouver had lost three straight before beating up on the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night. However, based on media reports this week, there are clear indications the future of Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau seems more secure now than it’s ever been. So, there are way too many conflicting factors to back either side.

But given the way both teams have been scoring lately, we lean to the OVER 6.5 goals.

The Canucks have cracked 7+ goals in seven straight games. The home team Oilers have produced 6+ goals in four straight games.

We think all this plays into a high-scoring season finale.
