Lightning Strikes Twice -- Tampa Bay Wins Stanley Cup for Second Year in a Row

NHL Jul 07, 2021

Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the 2021 Stanley Cup champions, winning back-to-back NHL titles.

And much respect to the feisty runner-up Montreal Canadiens for surpassing everyone's expectations, winning three straight playoff series as underdogs, and making Canada and Quebec proud.

Tampa Bay defeated the Montreal Canadiens 1-0 in Game 5 on Wednesday night on their home ice.  They became the first team to repeat as champs since the 2016 and 2017 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy won the Conn Smythe and recorded a shutout.  With the win, the Lightning improved to 15-0 immediately following a loss over the past two post-seasons, which is the longest such streak in NHL history.
