Previous Day’s Record: 0-3

What a weekend!

A sports fan's nirvana with two championship Game 7 thrillers in Major League Baseball....plus crazy comebacks in the English Premier League....as well as Barcelona and Real Madrid losing to small market teams on the same day in La Liga....plus the NFL providing its usual zaniness with nine games going on all at once on Sunday afternoon.

This Monday marks the start of a new week full of possibilities.  The World Series is just hours away (Tuesday), and you can click HERE if you want to check out my picks for both blockbuster NFL games today.  For everything else going on in the sports world, there is always Mastercard and a brand-new edition of Best Bets!

Here we go!

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Leeds United (2.50)  vs  Wolverhampton (3.00)   Draw (3.30)

Marcelo Bielsa´s Leeds United is the feel-good story of this early part of the season, standing up to giants like Liverpool and Manchester City with a daring attacking approach.  If they win today, they will be in Champions League position and just three points away from first-place Everton.

Leeds has scored three or more goals twice in its first four matches, and Wolverhampton is coming off a 4-0 defeat at West Ham, so…I’m going with Liam Gallagher’s favorite team in this one.  Because I don’t believe that anybody, feels the way I do, about them now.

My pick: Leeds win  3 – 1  over Wolverhampton

LIGA MX

Leon (1.86)  vs America (3.75)   Draw (3.75)

We are in the home stretch of the Mexican League with only four matches to go before the playoffs.  The top four teams get a bye into the quarterfinals, while teams seeded 5-12 will have to play among them in the first round.

If Leon wins, then they will have basically assured themselves a bye and a commanding six-point lead atop the standings with nine to go.  If America wins, however, they go all the way from fifth to second place, narrowing the gap between them and Leon to just two points.  In that case, the difference in points between first and fifth place will be merely four.

America is 1-0-3 in its last three matches, all of them exhausting rivalry games, while León is undefeated at home and hasnt lost in its past 11 matches.

Leon is the only team in single digits in goals allowed with eight, while America boasts the most potent offense with 24 goals in 13 matches.  I see a stalemate in the horizon.

My pick:  Leon  1 – 1  America

MLS SOCCER

New England Revolution (1.95)  vs  Philadelphia Union (3.40)

Draw (3.95)

New England is also in the same predicament as America, but with more of a cushion to avoid the first round of the playoffs.  Philadelphia, meanwhile, aims to catch Toronto FC at the top of the regular season standings.

I´ll keep it simple here.  The Union may be on the road, but they are 16-7-6 all-time vs. the Revolution and haven't lost to them in their past seven dates since August 2017.  I expect the streak to continue with the Union as the more consistent team.

My pick: Revolution  1 – 2  Union
