SOME NBA CHAMPIONSHIP FUTURES RECOMMENDATIONS

Last weekend's NBA All-Star Game came at a strange time.

Typically, the break comes smack-dab in the middle of the season. However, this year's break came with about 2/3 of the regular season completed.

That makes futures betting all the more interesting right now, since there are just 20 games are so for each team remaining on the regular-season schedule. Then, the NBA playoffs begin (target Apr. 16) and within six weeks after that, the NBA Finals will be underway (tentatively scheduled for June 2-19).

Spreads.ca offers futures odds on all NBA teams to win the championship. Here's a quick peek at the numbers:

Prices range from Phoenix (priced at +380) to San Antonio (+100,000). Really, you can bet the Spurs to win it all at 10,000-1 odds (our advice: don't).

The most interesting thing about NBA futures is that four Eastern Conference teams rank among the top six betting favourites. That's highly unusual, since the Western Conference is widely acknowledged to have better overall talent and superior teams at the top.

Instead of making a recommendation on what to bet on, let's instead focus on what NOT to do. For reasons that are completely inexplicable, Brooklyn remains the betting favourite in the East (at +475). This is preposterous. The Nets (32-30 and 8th in the East) are 3-7 in their last ten games and appear to be the league's biggest bust (okay, except for the Lakers who are 27-33 and 9th in the West).

As for what futures bets to possibly make.....we like the price on the Memphis Grizzlies (42-20) at +1800.

We also like the odds on the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks (37-25) at +750. We think the Bucks could flip a switch come playoff time, and win it all again.
