Predictions and Best Bets for the 2021-22 Season:  Best Values may be Golden State to win title at +900 and Luka Doncic to win MVP at +400 – here's why.

The 2021-22 NBA regular season tips off on Tuesday night (October 19th).

Right now, all 30 teams are tied in the standings and have an equal shot to win the NBA Finals happening next June.  Of course, we know that all teams aren't created equal and some teams are more equal than others (using a line from George Orwell's "Animal Farm").

Bettors have opinions about which wagers have value, versus which wagers are so-called "sucker bets."  We examined some of the recommendations from VegasInsider.com and are listing them here.  We looked at two of the most popular futures markets – NBA Champion and NBA MVP.

Keep in mind that all futures bets can be made at SPREADS.CA, Canada's best bet.  We'll be following the season and making predictions on our own as the season progresses.

WHICH TEAM WILL WIN THE NBA FINALS?

We know the Milwaukee Bucks are the defending champions but can they repeat?

The odds-on favourite among is Brooklyn.  The Nets are currently +205 to win the NBA Finals at SPREADS.CA.  We think those odds are ridiculous.  READ MORE HERE

Close behind the Nets are four teams from the Western Conference – including the always overhyped Los Angeles Lakers, along with the Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, and Utah Jazz, which are also receiving attention from bettors.

The L.A. Lakers are the second choice overall at +400 odds to win the title.  Right behind them are the Golden State Warriors.

NBA analyst Jonathan Jorcin explained surprising support on Golden State as follows:

“This team is valued at an extremely healthy +900.  Lets not forget that Stephen Curry almost single handedly got them past the play-in game and to the playoffs without Klay Thompson.  James Wiseman will be in his second year and I expect some good strides, and getting back Klay should also help Draymond Green.  He isn't good enough to be the 2, but as the 4th option this team should be lighting up the scoreboards once again.  Remember this team did not need KD to win one, and getting back to those roots could be recipe for another championship run.”

WHO WILL WIN THE NBA'S MVP AWARD?

Current Odds (SPREADS.CA) and listed order according to best values:

  • Kevin Durant (+700)
  • Joel Embiid (+700)
  • Donovan Mitchell (+3000)
  • Stephen Curry (+900)
  • Luka Doncic (+400)
  • Nikolaj Jokic (+1600)
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (+800)
  • James Harden (+2500)
  • Anthony Davis (+2500)
  • Devin Booker (+2000)

Note that Luka Doncic was listed as the preseason betting favorite to win the NBA Most Valuable Player award last season and he’s once again the top choice.

He’s got odds of 4-1.  NBA Expert Joe Nelson thinks this is his year:

“The NBA MVP remains a voting award and not a true performance award.  There is a history of some bias towards newcomers rather than repeat winners and Luke Doncic seems like a serious threat to be the scoring leader this season, after finishing sixth last season in the abbreviated season while his supporting cast revolved through numerous injuries.  Doncic improved his 3-point shooting significantly from 2019-20 to 2020-21 and he seems likely to have the volume required for the award with much less load management than some of the veterans in this conversation.”
