New Year's Day Sports Picks
All is quiet on New Year's Day....
....and so begins U2's epic protest anthem, "New Year's Day," recorded in 1983 and released later that same year on their album, War.
This 2021 New Year's Day isn't exactly "quiet," especially since we're posting a music soundtrack to go along with today's write up and betting recommendations.
Here's U2's official video to go along with your Friday research on today's games, which are all available to bet on at SPREADS.CA.
As for today's football games and betting, here are two strong recommendations in match-ups related to college football's national championship:
4 pm EST – Rose Bowl Game: Notre Dame vs. Alabama (-20)
Sure, Alabama is rolling along and could be headed to another national championship, but should the Tide really be laying nearly three touchdown to a team as talented as the Fighting Irish? Notre Dame was on a roll of its own, winners of ten straight before a disastrous loss in the conference championship game. And, aside from splitting two games versus Clemson, Notre Dame allowed just 16 PPG to the rest of its opponents. If the Irish can slow down Alabama just a little bit, they should get the cover. Laying -20 in a game of this magnitude is just too many points, even for a great team like Alabama. Recommendation: Play Notre Dame +20
8 pm EST – Sugar Bowl Game: Ohio State vs. Clemson (-7)
Ohio State may have gone a perfect 7-0 in their shortened 2020 season, but were they really tested? A win but non-cover in their last game versus Northwestern is probably some indication that this team hasn't proven itself yet against anyone close to the caliber of Clemson. The Tigers demolished their three previous foes – Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame – by a combined score of 131-37. There's no reason why a fast Clemson team that rolls up points should slow down in the dome playing in primetime. Recommendation: Play Clemson -7
