Patriots and Jets meet as both teams look to end slide
by Danny the Geek
The New England Patriots will take on the New York Jets in what is a battle of two teams looking to get off of the losing end of things. These two organizations have had quite a history with each other, as divisional match-ups come into play.
New York was defeated by the Patriots 33-6 in the last game between these two teams on Monday Night Football on October 21, 2019.
New England needs to get the offense going
The New England Patriots struggled getting anything going in the passing game against a Buffalo last week. With only 151 passing yards on the day, quarterback Cam Newton had trouble finding his receivers. To be fair, the receivers had trouble getting separation. This made for a long day for all involved.
New England may need to get the running game going a little bit more. One player I would watch out for is Damien Harris. He had 16 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. With New England’s top running back Sony Michel out of the picture, Harris could figure to have a big role.
New York needs to find any source of rhythm
New York lost to the Kansas City Chiefs by a 35-9 margin last Sunday. In defeat, Sam Darnold played well. He went 18-of-33 on the afternoon, going from 133 yards.
On Monday night, two wide receivers that I would watch for New York are Denzel Mims and Braxton Berrios. Mims caught two passes for 42 yards, while Berrios caught eight passes for 34 yards Sunday. He has had a decent season for a struggling Jets offense. Recording 29 receptions. For 210 Yards and two touchdowns, he should figure to be a big part of the equation on Monday night.
I would feel comfortable taking the New England Patriots at the spread at -7.5. Although the offense has struggled a little bit heading into Monday’s action, New England should be able to right the ship. If there is one thing that they have been able to do well this season, it is run the football. Via controlling the clock and running the football New England should be able to bring home the victory.
