Oilers and Flames Take to the Ice Saturday in "Battle of Alberta"

NHL Oct 28, 2022

The latest "Battle of Alberta" matchup returns this Saturday. While many fans and bettors expect lots of scoring, we're betting the other way.  Here's why.

When the Calgary Flames (5-1-0) take on the Edmonton Oilers (5-3-0) at Scotiabank Saddledome this weekend it will be a clash of styles. They are polar opposites in just about every way, aside from the fact they both share an Alberta postal code.

On the season, the defence-minded Flames after six games are currently sitting with 22 goals, while allowing just 17.

The high-scoring Oilers, meanwhile, have racked up 31 goals (ranking 2nd in the NHL) in eight games, while allowing 26.

Both teams are riding winning streaks -- Calgary at 2 victories and Edmonton at 3.

Something has to give in this Saturday night showdown.

The puck drops at 10:00 pm ET / 7:00 pm PT.

Here's a glance at the Spreads.ca card for this matchup:

Prediction (powered by Pointspreads.ca):

Spreads.ca has odds on this game listed at Edmonton at 2.20 and Calgary is priced at 1.71. The O/U is 7 goals.

The total is high because 5 of the last 6 rivalry games in this series have cracked the number.

Goalies Markstrom and Campbell are expected to be in the net. We expect one of them to come up with a big game and keep this one under the total.

While Calgary is tempting in this home spot, we don't want to lay such a heavy number, especially against an explosive team like the OIlers which is capable of mounting constant pressure.

Nonetheless, we expect a fiercely physical game and perhaps a 4-2 final that goes either way.

Our best bet is the UNDER 7 priced at 1.80.
