On This Date....in 2006: Hurricanes Beat Oilers in Stanley Cup Finals
June 19, 2006 marked the dark date in history when the Carolina Hurricanes, a punchline of a rented team with zero hockey legacy and not enough fans to surround a basketball court upset the proud multi-storied Canadian NHL franchise, the Edmonton Oilers.
In the decisive Game 7 played on this night 14 nightmarish years ago, the traitorous American team stoked with Canadian players skated to a 3-1 victory over the far the superior Canadian team.*
To this day, no one in Carolina remembers the win.
And, no one in Edmonton has forgotten the loss.
And so it was, on this date in Canadian sports history
*Note: Okay, so Carolina did have a pretty good team that year.
