Super Bowl LVII: Buffalo vs. Tampa Bay (According to the Odds)

NFL Aug 08, 2022

According to the futures odds at Spreads.ca, look for the Buffalo Bills to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LVII.

Tampa Bay is one of a dozen teams whose odds have improved since the end of last season.

Defending champion Los Angeles Rams not getting enough respect?

This next Super Bowl is scheduled to be played in Phoenix, next February 2023.

Predictions as to which two teams will take the field in the NFL's championship game seven months from now are everywhere on the internet.  The expected favourites are getting lots of attention. However, perhaps what's most surprising is who isn't among the top favourites – which is the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams.

Bettors will find more than a few other surprises since we last examined the Super Bowl futures odds a few months ago.  [READ THAT ARTICLE HERE]

Buffalo has improved its chances and is the most popular choice right now, sitting atop the futures board at odds at 6-1.  The Bills are loaded, and even got better during the offseason.  So, they took over the top spot in the AFC from Kansas City.

Closely behind Buffalo is the NFC favourite.  Tampa Bay at 7-1 odds is no surprise since Tom Brady has "unretired."  The Bucs have some question marks, but it's a no-brainer that Tampa Bay becomes an automatic contender with #12 on the field.

Kansas City and Green Bay also get loads of respect from betting markets, presently sharing 10-1 odds as the third most popular picks.

Hence, bettors tend to like Kansas City to play against Buffalo in the AFC championship, while the NFC championship matchup is predicted to be a battle of the two bays -- Green Bay versus Tampa Bay.

Here are some noteworthy changes since our last look at Super Bowl futures:

(1)  Kansas City lost some public support as their odds aren't as high now, following the trade of star WR Tyreek Hill.  However, oddsmakers and the betting public still believes enough in the coaching of Andy Reid and the talents of QB Patrick Mahomes to keep the AFC's dominant team in recent years in the top four.

(2)  The Los Angeles Rams haven't made believers out of many bettors, despite a Cinderella season in 2021.  The current champs are 11-1 to repeat.  What's surprising about these odds is they're the third choice in the NFC heading into the season, behind Tampa Bay and Green Bay.

(3)  The Los Angeles Chargers made a huge leap up to 14-1, which is surprising given their historic underachievements in the post-season (the Chargers have never won a Super Bowl).  This team also faces a brutal obstacle course, playing in the toughest division in the NFL, which is the AFC West.

(4)  Similar to the Chargers, the Denver Broncos odds have gotten shorter, as bettors expect the addition of QB Russell Wilson to spark a much-improved team. However, it's going to be tough to battle through a division with 4 teams in the top 16, and 3 in the top 8.

(5)  The other surprise on futures is all the support for the San Francisco 49ers, given they are uncertain at the QB position.  San Francisco is currently 16-1 and the 7th-most popular pick to win the next Super Bowl.
