The Road to the Grey Cup Likely Leads Through Winnipeg

CFL Nov 01, 2022

The 2022 Grey Cup championship game will be played November 20th at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Sask. However, most observers think the title runs through Winnipeg and the two-time defending Blue Bombers.

Six teams still have hopes of winning the CFL's Grey Cup.

This weekend, the field will be chopped down to the final four. Two games will determine each of two divisional finals. Winnipeg and Toronto, the two respective division winners, will be off this weekend, awaiting the winners of each game.

Nonetheless, all eyes are on the two-time defending CFL champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They steamrolled through the regular season with a 15-3 record. The Bombers finished 2nd in points scored, and 1st in points allowed. Winnipeg will host next week's West Division championship game, and assuming the Bombers get the victory, they'll be playing for a trifecta of Grey Cup championships.

Here's a look at the odds to win the Grey Cup, according to Spreads.ca:

In the Eastern Semi-Final, Hamilton (8-10) plays at Montreal (9-9) on Sunday. The Alouettes were a surprise team this season. Few fans or betters expected the long-suffering Alouettes to be among the contenders come playoff time.

Meanwhile, don't be fooled by the TCats' 8-10 losing record. They finished the regular season with the league's hottest win streak, at four straight victories. Montreal is laying -2.5 points in this game.

In the Western Semi-Final, Calgary (12-6) plays at the BC Lions (12-6). The Lions won the tiebreaker despite identical records, so they get to host a playoff game. The Stamps were the CFL's highest scoring team. They also finished with a 7-2 road record, tied for best in the league. Despite this, the BC Lions are a -2 point favourite.

Semi-Finals Predictions:

Let's give CFLNewsHub.com (Dino Sepe) their due for the following predictions on each game:

HAMILTON at MONTREAL:

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will have to play on the road for the duration of the 2022 playoffs. The Montreal Alouettes on the other hand had shown a lot of resilience in earning the right to host the East Semi-Final.
Both teams have gained a lot of their respected starters back just in time for when the game matters most. Having said that, this is going to be a very entertaining game where all 3 phases of the game will be on display. Come to think of it, this game can also be a flip of a coin on who you think will win. It will be close and it have all the implications of a possible overtime game.
Final Score:
Hamilton Tiger-Cats: 23
Montreal Alouettes: 20

CALGARY at BC:

The Calgary Stampeders have been an all too common occurrence in the postseason in which it is just normal for them to be there. Love them or hate them, the Calgary Stampeders have been a benchmark of success.
For the BC Lions, it was a year in which they did achieve a lot of success and had improved dramatically from their respected 2021 season.
With that said, we will be in for a game with a lot of offence. The experienced Calgary Stampeders will be victorious in a very closely contested match.
Final Score:
Calgary Stampeders: 38
BC Lions: 36
