Week 10 is here, which means we have just about reached the halfway point of the CFL season. Here's a look at at Hamilton-Toronto showdown in the battle of Ontario.
Friday night's showdown between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-6) and Toronto Argonauts (4-3) is shaping up to be the biggest game of the week.
A Toronto victory in Week 10 all but officially locks up the East Division title since the Argonauts could build a 3-game lead by beating the TiCats. That means Toronto could runaway with the division title, by crushing the hopes of the only team likely to pose any threat.
However, if Hamilton can somehow get the W, then it's going to be an interesting chase in the Eastern half of Canada for the remainder of the CFL season.
Oddsmakers at Spreads.ca do like Hamilton's chances (a little) since they've been installed as a -1 favourite. The TiCats are also listed at 1.76 on the moneyline, which comes back at 2.10 if backing Toronto. The O/U is 46.
This is the rematch of a back-to-back series. The Argonauts beat the TiCats 34-20 just six nights earlier in Toronto.
Kickoff for this possible revenge game at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton takes place at 7:30 pm EDT.
UPDATE: The Tiger-Cats are now without starting quarterback Dane Evans for their Week 10 matchup with Toronto. The line has moved to TOR -1.5
Prediction (powered by Pointspreads.ca):
This appears to be the toughest game to pick this week. CFL beat writers are split in their opinions (READ MORE HERE).
The Argos have been up and down all season long. We don't know if the team that nearly upset Winnipeg will show, or the team that lost to previously-winless Ottawa (which beat the Argos) a few weeks ago might take the field.
However, winning a back-to-back series against any team is tough, simply because of adjustments coaches will make and also what’s revealed from the opponent in the first meeting. And while the Argos have struggled with consistency, the Ticats have had serious trouble with playing a full 60-minutes and completing games.
Sorry Hamilton fans, but this is a team that tends to fade late. Accordingly, we like the small fave and host team TiCats to hold the lead at halftime but their fate is far less certain for the full game. So, we'll bet Hamilton in the first half and hope they come out of the locker room with some added spark.
