Winter Torch About to Be Lit in China – Opening Ceremony Set to Begin on February 4th
NOTE: Most events will take place in the dead of night (midnight to 8 am in North America) due to the time difference.
The 2022 Winter Olympics, officially designated as the XXIV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as "Beijing 2022," is scheduled to take place from February 4-20, 2022 in the capital city of Beijing and mostly in sporting venues near the neighboring towns of Yanqing and Chongli.
Note that some events technically begin on Feb. 3.
China remains a controversial host. However, the Olympics always seem surrounded by turmoil, so this is nothing new. The COVID and OMICRON situation will only make the situation more surreal. Many Olympic events will have either no spectators at all or every limited attendance. Hence, this will be a made-for-television spectacle.
The Olympic Games are also a gambling spectacle. Many events offer odds and there's money to be made on these games by those who do their research.
At Spreads.ca, many of skiing events are already listed with betting odds. There are also futures options as to which country will win the most gold medals and medal overall in the complete count. Note that some odds will be posted closer to the start of the actual event, since strict COVID protocols from Olympic officials could significantly impact which athletes end up competing.
