The UFC starts their tenure on Fight Island, Abu Dhabi having two championship fights double-headlining UFC 253.
In the main event, we’ll see two undefeated fighters go at each other when Israel Adesanya (19-0) will defend his Middleweight Championship against knockout artist Paulo Costa (13-0).
In the co-main event, we start a new era when Dominick Reyes takes on Jan Blachowicz for the vacated Light Heavyweight Championship.
With so many great fights lineup we’re going to break them all down and take our pick for each one.
Israel Adesanya (-205) vs Paulo Costa (+145)
Preview: When you have the most gifted technical striker vs. the man with the most devastating power, it’ll make for an exciting fight. Adesanya vs Costa is sure to deliver a banger. With one man always moving forward and the other picking his shots, this is set up for an exciting ending. With his ability to stay at his range and consistency with striking, we are taking Adesanya. Due to Paulo’s defense and his willingness to eat shots, we will take Adesanya getting a TKO in the 4th.
Pick: Adesanya by 4th Round TKO
Dominick Reyes (-300) vs Jan Blachowicz (+205)
Light Heavyweight Championship
Preview: Dominick Reyes just went toe to toe with Jon Jones. He was able to show that he has great takedown defense and can strike with devastation. Jan on the other hand has shown great resiliency over his career. He started off losing 4 of his first 6 in his career dating back to 2016 and now, having grinded the UFC rankings and winning 7 of 8 since, he’s back into title contention. This fight will have lots of heavy shots and I think that Reyes will be landing more than Jan. He is a gifted athlete and sound defensively, and for that reason, we’re taking Reyes by KO.
Pick: Reyes by 3rd round KO
Kai Kara-France (-245) vs Brandon Royval (+175)
Preview: We’re going to go with the slight Favorite Kara-France. Brandon Royval is proficient on the ground but on the feet, there’s a clear edge for Kai. With a solid wrestling background, Royval is going to have a tough time taking him down. Currently, Kara-France has a 90% defense on takedowns defended so with his ability to stay upright and the edge on the feet, we are taking Kai Kara-France
Pick: Kai Kara- France by Decision
Ketlen Vieira (-215) vs Sijara Eubanks (+155)
Preview: We are going to go upset here! This is definitely a coin flip as far as who can win it, but with Viera’s last win being a split decision in 2018, there’s been lots of change since that time. Sijara Eubanks is currently on a roll and if she is able to win this fight, she’ll propel herself closer to title contention. Viera has great takedown defense at 92% but that’s not on a large sample size. Eubanks should be able to put together combos and by mixing up being a threat on the feet and the ground, we’ll take Eubanks.
Pick: Sijara Eubanks by Decision
Zubaira Tukhugov (-150) vs Hakeem Dawodu (+110)
Preview: This is a classic ground vs stand up fight. Hakeem is a rising prospect at 10-1 with great hands. He averages 5.25 strikes per minute at almost a 50% clip. On the other hand, Zubaira has shown proficiency on the ground averaging about 3 takedown attempts per fight landing at a 50% clip. Dawodu offers an 85% takedown defense countering Zubaira. Zubaira has a 70% defense but only offers a 38% landing mark when it comes to the striking. Due to Hakeems ability to win on the feet and keep the fight standing, we’re going to take Hakeem Dawodu in this fight.
Pick: Hakeem Dawodu by TKO
