A Big Basketball Weekend Ahead -- Pointspreads' Daily Betting Notes: Friday, Mar. 19th

Basketball Mar 19, 2021

Betting Stat of the Day:  The Houston Rockets have lost 18 straight games, and gone 2-16 ATS in those defeats.  However, they are favoured tonight hosting the Detroit Pistons!  The Pistons are nearly as bad, having lost 10 of their last 13 games.

Bet of the Day Update:  Our BET OF THE DAY lost last night as Michigan State imploded and blew an 11-point halftime lead in the "First Four" round of March Madness.  This has been a tough week for the free plays, going just 1-4-1 (there was a push).  Nonetheless, since the start of February, our BET OF THE DAY has gone a very respectable 24-12-1 on the daily selections.  That's 66 percent winners.

March Madness (College Basketball)

The race to the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final 4 continues in full glory today with 18 games.

Major League Baseball

Major League Baseball is now less than two weeks away from opening day, April 1st!

The New York Yankees have surged during the last week, currently on a roll with a 12-4 exhibition record, which leads all teams in the majors.  The Chicago White Sox were the worst team in pre-season a week ago at 1-8, but have since rattled off four straight wins.  The dubious record for worst team in baseball belongs to the Cincinnati Reds, at 5-12.

NHL Odds and Notes

It's a lighter-then-usual night in hockey.  Just five games take to the ice on Friday.

Two early games happen in the North Division as Toronto hosts Calgary.  the first-place Maple Leafs are a -165 favourite over the Flames.  However, Toronto has dropped five of their last six games, including two straight.  They have had the Flames' number this season, winning three of four contests.  The Jets are just two points out of the lead, with Edmonton very much in the hunt, as well.

Montreal will go off as an even bigger favourite, hosting Vancouver tonight.  Spreads.ca has the Habs at -180 as of Friday morning.  The Canadiens will try to make a move up in the standings with next week's thre-game showdown with Edmonton coming up.  It's imperitive that Montreal win games like this against the underdog Canucks to join consideration as a playoff congtender.

Down under in the states, all three of the other NHL games look to be mismatches.  The Golden Knights, Capitals, and Blues are all strong favourites versus opponents with losing records.

NBA Odds and Notes

Friday night features ten games the NBA court.

Just when it looked like Toronto might jump back into the playoff mix (they were near .500 two weeks ago), they've completely disintegrated.  The hapless Raptors have dropped six straight, including a umiliating loss to the awful Pistons two nights ago.  Tonight will be a much tougher contest as Toronto hosts the red-hot Utah Jazz. Be careful about backing Utah here, which is on a long roadtrip and is playing their third game in four nights.  Utah is favoured by -5.
