NHL SATURDAY NIGHT -- MAPLE LEAFS TAKE ON THE RED WINGS
Toronto (33-13-4) seems to have everything on their side Saturday night, when they take the ice in Detroit to play the Red Wings (23-23-6).
Toronto rebounded from a mini-slump on Thursday night with an impressive home win versus Minnesota. Meanwhile, Detroit is in the middle of a brutal five-game stretch, facing Colorado, Toronto, Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Florida.
The Leafs lit up the back of the net early and often the last time these two played in Detroit, as Toronto slashed the Wings 7-4 four weeks ago in this same arena
(Start time is 7:30 pm ET).
OPINION (courtesy of Pointspreads.ca):
The Red Wings tend to beat the teams they should beat and lose to teams where they're not as talented. That probably spells defeat for Detroit.
However, we don't want to lay the price with the favourite. Why not? That's because the feisty Wings are also 15-10 at home, which should be a concern to anyone thinking of betting the Leafs.
We think the far smarter play is a bet on the OVER. Detroit averages 4 goals per game in their last 10 contests, but also has a -32 goal differential despite their .500 W-L record. We see another high-scoring outcome.
