Leafs-Habs Drop the Puck One Last Time

NHL Apr 09, 2022

NHL Saturday Night:  Montreal at Toronto

Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs (46-19-6, second in the Atlantic with 98 points) face the Montreal Canadiens (20-40-11, eighth place in the Atlantic) one last time in a season that's been very different for both teams.

The Leafs are streaking towards the playoffs with high hopes for May and June. The Habs, coming off a surprising Stanley Cup appearance last season, have looked nothing like the 2021 Cinderella team and have been out of contention since February. Nonetheless, this remains one of the most storied rivalries in sports. Anytime the Leafs and Habs tangle on the ice, fans are in for a treat.

No doubt, the shining star to watch will be Auston Matthews, who leads Toronto and ranks fifth in the NHL with 97 points -- scoring 56 goals and totaling 41 assists.

The game takes place in Toronto starting at 7:00 pm EST.

OPINION (Powered by Pointspreads.ca):

Montreal has occasionally shown signs of life, despite its lowly record. In their last meeting on March 26, Montreal won 4-2.

As for recent form, Toronto is playing well, but let's not discount the Habs, either. They're a respectable 4-4-2 in their last ten games and will certainly be up for this game versus their rival.

The Leafs are rightly favoured, but we think this game could be closer than expected. We like both the Habs on the puck line (+1.5 goals) and a small wager on them to win outright on the money line.
