Vancouver Whitecaps are a Big (and Tempting) Underdog vs. MLS Champion Seattle Sounders

Jul 19, 2020

The Vancouver Whitecaps face their toughest challenge today.

The Major League Soccer franchise faces a formidable test on Sunday when they face off against the defending champions, Pacific Northwest rivals, the Seattle Sounders.  The game, part of the "MLS is Back tournament," will be played at a controlled and neutral site in Orlando, FL due to the ongoing coronavirus fears.

Both teams are off to a lackluster re-start in the abbreviated 2020 season.  Seattle (1-1-2) is coming off a 2-1 loss to Chicago last week.  Vancouver (1-2-0) also lost their return match, dropping a 4-3 decision to San Jose.

Oddsmakers and the betting public don't seem to be swayed by recent results.  Seattle is a decisive favourite over Vancouver, according to the latest numbers posted at Spreads.ca.  Note the other game played today is Chicago vs. San Jose, the two most recent victors against these clubs.

Vancouver is an attractive longshot given the way these teams have been playing, and the added uncertainty of playing games in unusual conditions after a long layoff.  A Whitecaps win would pay +545.

Kickoff begins at 7:30 PM local time.
