Dustin Poirier stunned Conor McGregor on Saturday night with a second-round technical knockout win at UFC 257 at Fight Island-Abu Dhabi.

The American avenged his 2014 defeat by the Irishman with the biggest win of his career. McGregor had the better of the opening round before Poirier struck back in the second landing a vicious combination to send the aging legend to the canvas and send shockwaves through the lightweight division and the mixed martial arts world.

“It’s hard to overcome inactivity,” McGregor said afterwards, this fight his first in 12 months after beating Donald Cerrone a year ago.

“I’m gutted. It’s a tough one to swallow.”
