Will Duke Send Mike Krzynewski Out with a Storybook Finish?
We didn't see this coming.
No one predicted St. Peters, a #15 seed, to make it this far. The Peacocks are now in the Elite Eight, the first team in college basketball history with such a low seeding to make it this far.
However, if there's any story bigger than the Peacocks, it's most certainly the Duke Blue Devils and their gallant performance in this year's March Madness. In what will be legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski's final season, Duke is playing on a different level at the moment, certainly inspired by the dreamy prospect of sending their beloved leader into retirement as the national champion. Wouldn't that be amazing?
So, the stage is set for an exciting weekend of basketball. Duke plays Arkansas on Saturday where the Blue Devils are -4 favourites. Duke has been impressive for other reasons, most notably as a team that understands the historical consequences of each and every game at this point.
St. Peters plays North Carolina, which is laying -8 as the favourite. Incredibly, the Peacocks have been underdogs of +8 points or higher in all three tournament games, yet have won outright each time.
And, if you're guessing that we have a rooting interest in highlighting these two teams and games, you would be correct. It's hard to imagine a more exciting possibility than seeing Duke face St. Peters in the Final Four.
That would be a match of epic intensity.

OPINION (courtesy of Pointspreads.ca):
We have to toss out all the science and data in this round and go with our gut instinct. Some teams simply rise to the occasion. Think of Jimmy Valvano and North Carolina State many years ago.
There's just something incredible that happens when the stars line up. We're not sure how these games will break down, but based on the intangibles, we're rolling along with Duke to cover -4 and St. Peters to keep their game close and cover +8.
