Yankees Continue Rolling to Record-Breaking Season

MLB Jun 12, 2022

The New York Yankees are on a ridiculous near record-breaking run. Can anyone catch them or stop them?

This is getting ridiculous.

We keep waiting for the New York Yankees to "cool off." Or, have a losing streak. Or, stumble. Or, do anything except continue winning at this blistering pace.

Since we last checked in on the AL East race, the evil empire has gone on a 9-1 run. They're getting better! This is scary.

It's not that the rest of the AL East is suffering a sub-par season. In fact, all of the Yankees' rivals are performing pretty well. Four teams in this division are above .500. The Rays and the Blue Jays both have winning records at home and on the road. Even the lowly last-place Baltimore Orioles have won 25 games.

This is unprecedented. For years, New York's baseball teams have been perpetually overrated and badly overvalued by betting markets. They're always among the betting favourites, without justification.

However, if things keep up at this pace, the Yankees would finish the season at 122-40, crushing the record books. They'd also crush a few sportsbooks, too given the amount of wagers that typically are placed on this "public" team.

The Yanks started off the 2022 regular season as co-favourites to win the division (and the AL pennant) along with the Toronto Blue Jays, who looked loaded coming into the new campaign.  While the Jays have performed decently – currently at 9 games over .500 – they're also in danger of falling out of the division race by the All-Star break.

If the Yanks can keep up this pace, that would be the most wins in Major League history. Their .729 winning percentage would be the second highest in baseball history, behind the 1906 Cubs, who went 116-36-3 -- which was a .763 winning percentage. That was 116 years ago.

History hasn't been kind the last decade to this storied franchise.  The Yankees didn’t win anything close to this number of games in recent years. It's been 13 years since they won a championship.  Nonetheless, any teams winning 75 percent of its games at home, combined with 66 percent of road games, is not just a championship contender, but potentially one of the best teams of all time.

So, how has the Yankees hot start impacted futures betting markets?
